Report on Meeting with UNZA Student Representative leaders
The international association for youth and students for peace (IAYSP) Zambia chapter, HyoJeong rang and Tongil Moo-do (TIMD) Zambia Chapter had a meeting with Student leaders from the biggest university in Zambia called the University of Zambia (UNZA) at the university, school of business, on the 15th of February 2023, at 10 am (Zambian time). The purpose of the meeting was to see the possibility of IAYSP opening a club in the university and also having a peace designer project and s!nergy event at the university.
This meeting was organized by one of the HyoJeong Rang members Sunga Mpamyambigwi and Mowon Dembelle who met Mr. Peter Chishimba, who is the Speaker representing all students, one witnessing run. He attended a 1 and 2-day Divine principle workshop and that’s where he met IAYSP president, Soondo Mutewa, they had a short discussion and they made a date for a meeting with his colleagues.
The meeting started from 10 am to 13 pm and had a total of 3 student leaders from UNZA’s different faculties such as the school of Humanities and the school of business were in attendance, together with the speaker of the students Mr. Peter Chishimba who chaired the meeting. The student leaders were given a brief introduction about IAYSP and what it stands for, same with Tongil Moo-do Zambia.
The student leaders were also shown some of the activities that IAYSP and TIMD Zambia have carried out and shared some activity that they would like to have to break the ground which is the “Peace Designer” and “S!nergy” program. The student leaders showed great interest in IAYSP and they discussed several ideas they had that could help to make the programs successful.
The student representative also shared that through them we can open a branch of IAYSP in the university and how to go about it. After several hours of discussion, the student representative leaders were happy to have us come to the university and were willing to help us with anything that would help with getting IAYSP in the university.
In conclusion, the meeting between IAYSP Zambia and UNZA student representatives was very successful as the student leaders showed a lot of enthusiasm and interest in the IAYSP Zambia initiatives. They set a follow-up meeting for the 21st of February to further discuss the Peace Designer Program at UNZA.
